Spring Coming Early to Petoskey

New Jobs & Stimulus Money Add a Touch of Spring

I don’t know anyone who doesn’t love Spring. The birds start singing, colors start popping out of the ground and trees start leafing out as temperatures begin to mellow.

Hope springs eternal in Spring!

The recent Meijer job fair at North Central Michigan College helped to boost the “promise of Spring” for many Petoskey area residents looking employment. Landing a new job as Spring turns the corner will be a big boost for those who have struggled through a winter of unemployment.

The 220 positions being filled for Meijer’s opening day in April won’t be enough to turn the local economy around, but it will certainly make a contribution. The more significant impact will be on the lives of the lucky one’s chosen to fill the positions.

Another positive note in the local economy is the $153,672 in stimulus money that Emmet County Recyclying received to expand recycling efforts and education in the county. Any money flowing into the area is a good thing.

Let’s hope that these two bright spots in the local economy are just a taste of a prosperous tourist season for Petoskey and Northern Michigan this year.
