Standing on Mitchell Street in downtown Petoskey, MI can be a soulful experience. The hustle and bustle of the big cities is lost – except for the occasional 18-wheeler making its way through town. After all of the money spent on beautifying Mitchell Street, I wonder why we don’t reroute all of the big-truck through traffic to highway 31 and save the wear and tear on Mitchell Street – not to mention saving our ears.
Downtown Petoskey seduces the mind and soul back to a simpler time when one could walk an entire town greeting most by name. Sitting on one of the numerous benches and watching the world go by for a moment or two is recommended for visitors and natives alike whose souls long for a respite from the pace of today’s wired world.
Petoskey’s many public drinking fountains provide numerous opportunities to meet and greet the many faces of the world passing through one of Michigan’s scenic gems.
