Jack Reacher in Petoskey

61 Hours Took Less than 24 Hours in Petoskey

I lack impulse control. Delay gratification – why? What’s that? Especially when it comes to my favorite authors, like Lee Child creator of the Jack Reacher novels.

Lee Child’s latest novel – 61 Hours – was on my list for months and I had planned to read it on the plane for an upcoming trip, but when it hit the bookstore shelves on Tuesday I could not wait. This in spite of the fact that I had pre-ordered it on Amazon and would probably be receiving my copy on Wed.

So, when Jack Reacher arrived in Petoskey on Tuesday, I found myself walking into McLean & Eakin Booksellers on Lake Street just to read the cover jacket – first mistake. Later on, after working out at Petoskey Health & Fitness, I strolled into Horizon Books on Mitchell Street “just to read the first chapter” – which I managed to limit myself to.

When Wednesday afternoon rolled around and UPS delivered Jack Reacher to my doorstep, my lack of impulse control took over and I immediately dove into 61 Hours. Twenty-four hours later, 61 Hours was history.

I did manage to put the book down to catch 8 hours of sleep and I also managed to fit in my daily workout and the Internet marketing activities I do to be able to put bread on the table and keep Jack Reacher coming to my door as well as Elvis Cole, Lucas Davenport and others.

Now that Jack Reacher has left town, I’m left with finding another good read for the plane on Tuesday. I think it will be Nearest Exit by Olen Steinhauer which features Milo Weaver, a very good tourist (spy).

Oh no, a new Lucas Davenport novel is out – what to do.
