Christmas in Petoskey

A Quiet Christmas Day in Petoskey MI

I was up at 5:30 on Christmas day in Petoskey not to see if Santa had visited, but to take sis to Traverse City to catch an early flight. She is off to Idaho for a week to visit her daughter and son in-law.

The only cup of coffee possible on Christmas day between Petoskey and TC was 7 Eleven – which I passed on. We stopped at the Holiday Inn in Traverse City for poached eggs and coffee – not much open in TC either at 8am on Christmas Day.

Returning to Petoskey, the downtown area was a ghost town – not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. I hung out at the house shoveling some snow, doing a little work on the computer and watched the David Lean version of Dune for about the 6th time. Then it was off to the Petoskey Theaters for Sherlock Holmes starring Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law. An enjoyable film. How does Downey keep himself in such good shape?

After the movie, I spent time celebrating a friend’s Christmas birthday and watching The Holiday with four women – I paused the movie several times to ask them – “What’s going through your mind right now?” A feeble attempt to try and understand the feminine mystique better.

This morning – Thank God! – Roast & Toast is back in business and so am I. Later, it will be time to stroll downtown Petoskey and check out the sales.
