Petoskey to Lower Nuisance Factor

Nuisances Will Need to Change Their Ways in Petoskey MI

The city council in Petoskey is considering new measures for cleaning up specific nuisances such as unsecured or unsafe buildings, inoperable or unlicensed vehicles kept on private property and disabled motor vehicles on public property.

I guess Sanford & Son will have to clean up or move out!

I think this is a good direction for the Council and the city of Petoskey. There’s nothing worse for a homeowner who is concerned about property values and keeping their property in good repair than a neighbor who is comfortable living in a junk yard.

It only takes one nuisance neighbor to ruin a neighborhood, whether it involves poorly maintained property, a dog that never stops barking, the need to share their love of music with residents on the moon, or Tasmanian devils for children.

The unfortunate thing is it seems impossible to communicate with such people as they seem to lack any regard for people other than themselves. The only thing that can get them to change seems to be the strong arm of the law.

The City Council of Petoskey has my backing on this one – Down With Nuisances!

Petoskey City Council members voted unanimously on Feb. 15 to adopt an updated ordinance regulating nuisances.

The updated ordinance, taking effect in 14 days, would reclassify violations of the nuisance rules as municipal civil infractions rather than criminal offenses as under the earlier version — a move which city staff have said would allow for easier enforcement.

The update also has included steps to clarify how nuisances are defined and expands the list of situations which can be considered nuisances.
